This study is a scrutiny investigative approach on T. S. Eliot’s complex dramaturgical development and progress in the implementation of a very olden dramatic practice. It is the operational of the chorus in Eliot’s verse dramas. This analysis is the third continuous effort to track the treatment that he employs in dealing with the chorus from antiquity to a modern approach. The study tries to pursue the procedure of Eliot in using the chorus in his dramas, tracing the progress Eliot reached with particular reference to his two final plays The Confidential Clerk and The Elder Statesman as Case in Point. The study uses descriptive-analytical and critical methodology. It begins with a brief outline of Eliot and his theoretical views on the merits and demerits of the chorus in drama. Then the task moves ahead to examine and analyze Eliot's usage of the chorus in The Confidential Clerk. Later, the work moves to the next part that explores the play The Elder Statesman. The study ends with discussion, conclusion, and recommendations if there is any.

Four diverse travellers are considered for their roles as agenda driven visitors, whilst also tourists. Central to their mission: finding ways to deal with the ruling regime in Burma / Myanmar, which could stymie their own projects, with dire consequences. Their commonality is that all were in Burma / Myanmar not despite the politics, but because of them. Each one of them upholds resistance to the oppressive regime. Yet all know to remain aware of the sensitivity of stating their responses to the dominant forces. Whilst in Myanmar, they must act, speak and write within safe parameters of engagement. That hyper-awareness places them in contrast with the everyday ‘innocent’ tourist.

Stereotypical expectations of western retirees run counter to the goals and actions of the participants in this study. Dissatisfied at conditions available to them in their home countries, they escaped to Cambodia, Myanmar or Laos. There, they created new roles for themselves, advancing the wellbeing of disadvantaged local people. They set up grassroots ventures to upskill, house, educate and employ individuals otherwise bypassed for such opportunities. Fieldwork for this research took place in Cambodia, Myanmar and Laos in 2015, 2016 and 2019. Twenty projects were visited, including eco-tour guiding, food production, hospitality, and artisanal enterprises. For the operators, the emphasis is responsible, small-scale development, foregrounding a social justice agenda, to engage deprived members of the population. Through these micro aid initiatives local people, marginalised and disempowered because of disability, sex abuse, HIV Aids, and poverty, develop skills for employment. These runaway retirees are making a significant contribution in their new locations.
