Post-harvest food preservation remains a major constraint. However, producers in the area resort to the use of chemical or natural products to fight against pests. It is in this perspective that the present study is inserted, which aims to diagnose the cowpea conservation system in the commune of Niakhar. A survey was conducted in three villages, based on a questionnaire aimed at understanding farmers' perceptions of post-harvest cowpea conservation. The analysis focused on the incidence of insects and the estimation of losses, the conservation method and sanitary prophylaxis. The results showed that women were more involved in conservation activities than men, with 67% and 14% respectively. Indeed, the insects that cause more damage belong to the Bruchideae family, including Callosobruchus maculatus, which is the pest that causes serious damage to stored cowpeas, and Bruchidius atrolineatus respectively (80.5%) by Callosobruchus maculatus and (19.5%) by Bruchidius atrolineatus. These insects can cause losses of 15%, 30% and more than 75%, and even 100% of post-harvest losses. However, the conservation methods used are plastic barrels (19.4%), plastic bags (2.8%) and other methods are used by (72.2%). The conservation in seeds is done by (94%) of the producers and (6%) do it in pods.

Agriculture is the mainstay of Indian economy. The country has the second largest population in the world whose demand of food is sustained by agriculture. Geo-informatics plays a vital role in management of agricultural activities on sustainable basis. A Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) system operating in the microwave region of the electromagnetic spectrum has an ability of imaging the earth surface day and night even during cloudy weather. Present study was carried out for generation of radar spectral signature (RSS) of kharif season crops using multi-temporal Sentinel-1A, synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data acquisition in C-band with vertical transmit and vertical receive (VV) polarization. Multi-temporal Sentinel-1A SAR images (May to September) covering the all main phenological stages of crop were acquired. Due to the presence of multiple scatters within the crop volume scattering of radar energy occurs when the SAR beam penetrates the crop. In volume scattering multiple bounces and reflection from the different components of the crop occurs thus resulting in high backscattering values. Depending upon the backscattering values in multi-temporal SAR data the cotton crop is further segregated in two categories i.e. late sown and early sown cotton crop. SAR backscatter values for cotton and other associated major kharif season crops were noted on multi-temporal SAR data. Each crop has different date of sowing and growing pattern also having difference in crop biomass, moisture content, plant height, plant density per meter square. Due to this a significant difference in radar backscatter values for the different crops in multi-temporal SAR data was observed during their growing period. The results of the study demonstrate the potential of multi-temporal Sentinel-1A, SAR data for monitoring and identification of cotton crop.

Acetes paraguayensis is the only species of Acetes that occurs in freshwater. A genus of small, krill-like prawns occurs in Timpuk Lake, Barangay Su’uh, Panamao, Sulu. A Shrimp aquaculture is one of the vital parts that determine the world economy. However, a very small portion of Acetes paraguayensis catches are sold as fresh shrimp in the locality. The greater portion are sold dried. Statistical analysis (one factor ANOVA), showed no significant difference at five percent level of significance with a degree of freedom between of 3, degrees of freedom within 36. The tabular value is 2.92. For this study, the computed value is 0.41 which is far less than the tabular value, thus the null hypothesis that states no significant difference of the occurrences of shrimp fry (Acetes p.) at four quadrant or the catching station at Timpuk Lake, Barangay Su’uh, Panamao, Sulu is accepted. Interview surveys were conducted right after collecting samples from the wild. The occurrence of shrimp fry (Acetes p.) or the planktonic shrimps were present in the study showed a bi-modal peak of occurrences according to the fisher-folk or a tenant of the lake. The abundances of the said species is between August and September and on February to March. However, occurrences were present throughout the year and best fishing time for Acetes paraguayensis was during the dark phase of the moon. Indeed, Acetes paraguayensis (shrimp fry) occurred uniformly at all areas of lake. To date, published work on Acetes especially ecology, temporal distribution in the Philippines are still very scarce.
