Abstract
This study aims to examine and test the impact of consumers’ fear of missing out on the cognitive and Affection dimensions of impulsive purchasing behavior amongst users of e-commerce platforms. The research problem arises from the rapidly increasing reliance on digital platforms and the accompanying promotional strategies that rely on time pressure and limited quantities, which have influenced purchasing decisions. To achieve the research objectives, a descriptive-analytical approach was employed, and an online questionnaire was used as the primary tool for collecting data from a non-probability (convenience) sample of 265 users of digital platforms and online stores such as (Facebook, Instagram, SHEIN, TikTok). The statistical software SPSS v26 was used to process the data and test the hypotheses using descriptive statistics, reliability tests (Cronbach’s alpha) and simple linear regression analysis. The results indicated a significant effect of consumers’ fear of missing out on the dimensions of impulsive purchasing behavior; it was found that consumers’ fear of missing out acts as a ‘disruptor to rational evaluation’, leading to a reduction in the level of caution, cognitive planning and deliberation prior to purchase, and an increase in consumers’ cognitive impulsivity. The results also showed that the effect was more pronounced in the affective domain than in the cognitive domain.
