The concept of rural industrialization is gaining momentum as an important solution to a balanced region development, job creation and poverty alleviation in backward and resourceful regions. The situation of difficult terrain, meager population density, tribal social system and rich natural resources make the state of Arunachal Pradesh an interesting case-study for the analysis of rural industrialization. The study is analytical in presentation addressing the opportunities and problems of industrialization in rural areas of Arunachal Pradesh with an emphasis on resource-based industries, MSMEs, entrepreneurship, government interventions and institutional constraint. The paper draws on secondary data from government reports, scholarly literature and policy documents to underscore the tremendous potential, but also the ongoing structural barriers. The study finds that a process of rural industrialization can be transformative in Arunachal Pradesh and can be enabled by developing infrastructure, building capacities through skill development, integrating into the markets, and designing culturally appropriate policies.
