Abstract
French Missionary Dallet (1874) wrote that the thousand character essay is utilized for teaching Chinese children for Chinese characters. The thousand character essay is called in Korea as Tcheonzamun (Han, 1583). Tcheonzamun(千字文) means the thousand(千) character(字) essay(文). And these three Chinese characters, themselves, mean ‘the thousand character essay’. The Koreans firmly believed that Tcheonzamun was created by Chinese people (Han, 1583). However, recently several researchers tried to translate Tcheonzamun poem through Korean pronunciation of Chinese characters (Kim, 2023) and on the basis of the meaning of Chinese characters on Korean grammar (Park et al., 2021). And those researchers assumed that Tcheonzamun was created by Korean language-speaking people (Park et al., 2021; Kim, 2023). On the present study, the translation was done through the meaning of Chinese characters on Tcheonzamun (Park et al., 2021). Somewhat old Tcheonzamun book was utilized for the present study (Han, 1583). The thousand character essay is called in Korea as Tcheonzamun (Han, 1583).
